The support our County squads received from our volunteer caddies at both the East Division County qualifier (Jamboree ) and the Scottish County finals played at Balbirnie Park G.C. and Eyemouth G.C. respectively this year was very much appreciated. Our principal sponsor BiB Ltd hosted a celebration to thank the caddies and congratulate the squad on their success, those available met on Saturday 19th October at Le-di-Vin wine bar Edinburgh.
The group recalled both events and applauded the success of the County squad who secured back to back wins of the Scottish County Challenge trophy for the first time since 1933. We recognised a few tremendous achievements, noting that Karen Marshall has played in the Jamboree 32 times since her first selection in 1988 when the event was played and won by Midlothian at Baberton, and that our Vice-captain, Wendy Nicholson has been a member in of each of the 6 winning squads when Midlothian have won the Scottish finals in the modern era.
We applauded Rachael Livingstone on an outstanding performance this season across both events being unbeaten and winning 10.5 points in both the Greensomes and singles matches!
The main purpose of the event was to thank our caddies, who give up their time, and are there for our players during the 3 day events. Playing 36 holes under match conditions is never easy, but with their help and pushing the trolley, spotting the balls, charging the batteries over lunch and just being on the bag goes a long way to take some strain from our players and allow them to focus on their game.
If you are interested in volunteering for next years Jamboree (28 June to 1st July), please contact myself or Wendy – its local – being held at Bruntsfield Links!
